Amhránaí Na Gaeilge, the Irishman’s Chorale, was
founded in 1985 by Larry Feely, and is one of the largest all
male Irish choruses in the United States. The Chorale is dedicated to
the preservation of Irish culture and history through
music.
Approximately 50 members come mainly from the central
Maryland area. Many individual members have a musical background, or
also perform in community and/or church musical groups.
Our repotoire is comprised of both traditional
and contemporary music by Irish composers and lyricists, and
includes a variety of patriotic, spiritual, ballad, sea chanty, and
fun songs. Our director
is Mr. Leslie Luco, and our assistant director and accompanist is
Ms. Bonnie Davis.
The
Chorale performs annually at major Irish functions in the Baltimore
area, including the Irish Festival, the St. Patrick’s Day parade,
and special masses at the Basilica of the Assumption and at St.
Patrick’s Church in Fells Point. The group has performed at
the dedication ceremonies on the deck of the USS Constellation in
Baltimore Harbor, the dedication of the Irish Brigade monument at
Antietam National Battlefield, the dedication of Baltimore’s Irish Shrine
at Lemmon St., the 100th anniversary of St.
Patrick’s Church in McKewen, Tenn., and has been honored to sing our
National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner, at Camden Yards, home of
the Baltimore Orioles MLB and at Cal Ripken’s Ironbird Stadium
in Aberdeen, Md. The Chorale was privileged to sing at
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor in 2003 to honor the visit of
the Jeannie Johnston, a replica of the Irish refugee ship, like
those that brought many of our ancestors to the US during the
famine. Recently the group performed at the Gettysburg
National Cemetary during the annual memorial service at the Irish
Brigade monument.
Each
year the Chorale performs numerous concerts at senior centers,
nursing homes, and churches around the Baltimore area, and is
always ready to perform at major fund raising events. The Chorale contributes to several
local charities annually.
In May 2002
many members of the Chorale, and their wives, visited Ireland for a
musical tour. While
there, the group performed in Dublin's St. Patrick's Cathedral,
the historic church in Baltimore, Co. Cork, the shrine at the site
of the apparition of Our Lady of Knock, the Cobh Heritage
Center and had a great time singing informally for and with the
local folks.
The Irishman's Chorale proudly produced its first
CD in
August 2004 and a second in 2007. Click to Listen or for details

The group
enjoys singing, being together, and promoting all things Irish.
